Our Navy Pinstripe waistcoat is made from real wool fabric made by coveted Italian mill Reda and finished with a silky burgundy lining. It is the product of a decade of British tailoring and expertise. History of The Waistcoat

The first waistcoat appeared in Persia in the middle of the 17th century as a much longer garment than they are today. By 1800 they were much shorter and buttoned rather than hooked and were highly embroidered and decorative. In short the more flamboyant the more it was considered fashionable. However from the mid nineteenth century onwards waistcoats became much more sober and were made primarily to match the suits or jackets they would be worn with. As wristwatches became more fashionable interest in the waistcoat waned as it was no longer needed to house a pocket watch. Fast forward to today and you will find the waistcoat in many guises and places, be it leather bikers waistcoats, tweed country style waistcoats, casual waistcoats with jeans and of course the very prevalent waistcoat as part of a suit. You will also find women wearing denim and embroidered waistcoats.
