Key Features & Frequently Asked Questions

A luxury trench coat that reflects it’s rich heritage should include several key features. Firstly it should include epaulettes which originally were used to denote military rank. In addition there should be a gun flap which unsurprisingly would be used to protect your weapon and along with the windbreaker on the back offered the wearer additional protection from the elements. The original trench coat was double breasted which again with two layers overlapping offered extra protection against the weather and rain. In addition you will find straps on the sleeves which can be tightened around your wrists to protect air getting in. Our heritage trench coats include all these features along with a check under collar. The length of a mens trench coat is also an important choice. We offer a short trench, a long trench and a mid length trench that offers the wearer protection against wind and rain.

Are Trench Coats good for men?

Given that the history of trench coats go back to the first world war and was worn by men in the trenches it is strange that today some see it as an item of clothing exclusively for ladies. On the contrary a well designed and made men’s trench coat remains a wardrobe staple and a stylish item that offers the owner so many options to style.

Do guys look good in Trench Coats?

Another question we often get asked by men and the answer of course is yes but like everything you need to carefully think about the fabric and colour choice. For men trench length is also important. A great trench coat starts with the materials used to manufacture it. It is an investment and pay extra to get the full benefits and longevity a good water resistant trench coat will offer.

Are trench coats still stylish?

Trench coats are a timeless classic jacket and therefore have never and never will go out of fashion. If worn with the right outfit they can add real style and finesse to your outfit.

How should a Man wear a Trench Coat?

A trench coat is one of the most versatile items of clothing a man can own. It can be dressed up and worn over a suit with a tie but also looks equally dashing with a button down shirt and a pair of jeans and smart trainers. If you are going to wear it predominantly for work with a suit we recommend our navy or mens black trench coat. If it is going to be worn all the time then you can’t go wrong with our beige mens double-breasted trench coat.

What to wear with a mens trench coat?

If you are going casual then we recommend either a pair of our indigo or grey jeans with a polo or button down Oxford shirt with smart trainers or loafers. If you want to dress up without wearing a suit then consider a pair of moleskin or corduroy trousers with a double cuff shirt, waistcoat and a tie. Make sure you choose contrast colours as it will make a better impression and go with a pair of Oxford or Brogue shoes.

What shoes to wear with a mens short trench or double-breasted trench ?

When it comes to men's trench coats and the shoes to wear with it, it really actually comes down to the rest of your outfit. If you are wearing it with a suit or tie and smart trousers then stay safe and go with brogues or Oxford shoes. If you are going out in jeans or a casual shirt then Chelsea , Desert boots, loafers or smart trainers will all look great. Just make sure you get the right colours. If you are going with a black trench coat then go with black shoes. If you have a navy or beige trench coat then stick with shades of grey, brown and blue for your footwear.

How to look after my men’s trench coat?

As the outer shell of our trench coats are made from dry wax cotton, not a wool trench, we recommend removing any dirt with a sponge and water. Most marks will brush off when dry. Do not put your cotton trench coat in a washing machine or dry clean it.
