Why are they called Boxer Shorts?

Since 1925 when Jacob Golomb, founder of Everlast, designed trunks with elastic bands inside to give fighters more freedom during bouts, boxer shorts have been with us. The military issued refined versions of them to Soldiers in world war 2 and many soldiers retained them as choice after they returned as they preferred them to briefs. From those early days their popularity and interest was enhanced by an 80s Levis advert featuring English model Nick Kamen in a laundrette dressed only in white boxers washing his other clothes. Boxer shorts are here to stay and nowadays they are now sold to men, women, girls and boys, making a refreshing change to tight fitting briefs.
