Herringbone and Check Tweed Fabric

Tweed is a fabric made of tightly woven dyed wool. It comes in a variety of weights, weaves, and colours. Check Tweed and Herringbone Tweed are common but there are other famous tweeds including Harris and Donegal. Only cloth woven in the Outer Hebrides is eligible to be called 'Harris Tweed'. As it is quite coarse, tweed is usually reserved for outerwear. It has been used by Scottish Shepherds for hundreds of years in defence of the tough highland climate. In the early 1800s, the fabric became popular amongst the English aristocracy, and the resulting increase in production followed by the industrial revolution helped make it cheaper. It is now used in a variety of garments and tweed home furnishings, being particularly prevalent in the countryside. By choosing certain sheep breeds instead of others, you can somewhat control the pattern that will emerge in your tweed garment.

History of The Waistcoat

The first waistcoat appeared in Persia in the middle of the 17th century as a much longer garment than they are today. By 1800 they were much shorter and buttoned rather than hooked and were highly embroidered and decorative. In short the more flamboyant the more it was considered fashionable. However from the mid nineteenth century onwards waistcoats became much more sober and were made primarily to match the suits or jackets they would be worn with. As wristwatches became more fashionable interest in the waistcoat waned as it was no longer needed to house a pocket watch. Fast forward to today and you will find the waistcoat in many guises and places, be it leather bikers waistcoats, women’s embroidered waistcoats, tweed country style waistcoats, casual waistcoats with jeans and of course the very prevalent waistcoat as part of a three piece suit, particularly at a wedding.

How and when to wear Your Blue Waistcoat

Whilst many people see the tweed waistcoat as a formal item of clothing worn under a suit or even tuxedos at a wedding, where the rings are traditionally put in the pockets, it is often worn in combination with jeans for a much more casual look. It is in fact an everyday item for many, particularly in the country, and this light blue tweed one is exceptionally smart.

Waistcoats have been around for centuries so they are never likely to be out of fashion. No wonder it's on most people's wishlist to own one.

Washing your New Tweed Waistcoat

Your new mens blue tweed waistcoat is tailored from a real wool fabric and therefore should only be washed on a cool cycle or by hand. Always take extra care to check the label on your clothes for origin and best washing instructions.

Size and Sustainability Check

Here at WISC we take sustainability seriously. We use Natural fabrics and make most of our garments to order, avoiding wastage and over stocking. We make garments that are classic designs that are built to last in England and pay our staff properly. One aspect that is crucial in this supply chain Is believe it or not size. We make by hand in traditional tailored sizes for both mens and womens clothing. It means that we do not indulge in vanity sizing prevalent amongst high street stores. To avoid returns and all the transport and re- make issues that follow it is important that you click and view our shirt fit guide guide for information on measurements to make sure you get the correct size first time when you shop online. The range available covers small to plus size, short to tall and can be viewed on our website. Taking this action will help us in our drive to sustainability which benefits everyone. If you have any issues please contact us. Thank you for your help.
