Custom Fit or Slim Fit?

The traditional plain polo shirt’s sporting origins meant that it was never made as a tight fitting garment. However with the advent of more modern examples worn for fashion rather than sport, they have become more fitted. Slim fit examples can be very tight and need a great physique to carry them off, so they are generally the domain of younger men. We call our fit Custom as it is looser than the slim fit examples generally on sale from the likes of Ralph Lauren and Lacoste, but they do have a shape to them rather than being loose fit. This way you get the best of both worlds. For this reason if you generally buy our shirts and want a less defined shape we recommend you buy a size up.

The Origins Of the Polo Shirt

Whilst some quote very early examples of shirts that resembled polos the birth place is usually associated with tennis player Rene Lacoste known by his nickname Le Crocodile. Those of you who are familiar with Polo Shirts and Logos will make the connection immediately. Seeking a more comfortable and softer collar shirt for tennis playing Rene Lacostes designed what is now recognised as the first polo shirt. With short sleeves and a few buttons at the top it became a recognised garment with interest from several avenues. Fast forward around thirty years and it became the favourite of the Polo playing community and a certain Ralph Lauren launched a pique polo shirt with an embroidered polo player logo on it. Both the Lacoste and Ralph Lauren shirts are hugely popular still around the world as is the name Fred Perry

Our Featured Polo Shirts are Unique

Polo shirts have been around a long while. Several well known brands offer huge plain colour options with conventional collars. Our Polo Shirts however are different to most other polo shirts. The white example has a grandad collar trimmed in contrast fabric and a lined button area. A unique design feature. Other colours have different collars and trims. None of them could ever be described as plain and the white example sets the tone.

Ideal Golf Polo Shirt

Polo shirts have been the choice of golfers in warmer weather for decades. A golf shirt is selected to remain comfortable, breathable and provide the wearer with freedom to swing. Short sleeve cotton polo shirts fit the bill well and despite the emergence of modern high performance fabrics that are widely available in golfing wear shops, traditional golfers still fall back on 100% cotton examples. The make a great golfing pairing with our Chino Shorts

Washing your White Polo Shirt

Your mens short sleeve white Polo shirt is 100% pure cotton product so add it to a cool machine wash or wash by hand if desired, and always separate from colours. Take extra care to check the label on your shirts for origin and best washing instructions and set iron temperature accordingly. We do not recommend tumble drying.

Here at WISC we love customer feedback so if you love your new men’s cotton polo shirt, or indeed any other product you have bought from us then please get back to us and leave us a review. Product review details are available on our web site.

Custom Fit Polo Shirt : Shirt Size and Sustainability

Here at WISC we take sustainability seriously. We use natural fabrics and make most of our garments to order which avoids wastage and over stocking. We make garments that are classic designs that are built to last in England and pay our staff properly. One aspect that is crucial in this supply chain Is believe it or not size. We make by hand in traditional tailored sizes for both men and womens clothing. It means that we do not indulge in vanity sizing prevalent amongst high street stores. The range available covers small to plus size, short to tall and can be viewed on our website. Taking this action next time you shop with us will help us in our drive to sustainability which benefits everyone. If you generally buy our shirts we recommend you buy a size up in our Polo shirt as they are a custom fit. If you have any issues please contact us. Thank you for your help.
