Slim fit Leg or Classic Leg Cord Trousers?

Here at WISC we offer three different leg widths, Slim Leg, Medium or tailored leg and Classic leg. This way we can provide tight or loose fitting legs according to preference. The model in the picture is wearing MEDIUM LEG, but if you are still in doubt measure a pair of trousers that you own to confirm the leg size you want. Traditional corduroys had a wider flat front leg but more recently they have slimmed down to fit in with current fashion, and slim fit chinos have become more popular. For reference our leg widths are as follows:

Slim leg 13.5 inches
Medium or tailored leg 15.5 inches
Classic leg 17.5 inches

The Origins Of Corduroy Fabric

It is believed that corduroy fabric originated in Fustat, now part of Cairo, and was brought to Europe in mediaeval times. At this point it did not have the ridges that we would now accept as a definitive corduroy characteristic. The ridges, or wales as they are properly known came later and are measured in ridges per inch with pincord the finest and elephant cord the thickest. There is still dispute over where the name Corduroy came from, some saying it is a derivation of the words ‘ the cloth of kings’, and others from a combination of cord and duroy, a coarse woollen cloth by those attempting to give it a French sounding name. Whatever the truth, or whatever story you accept, corduroy is a very recognizable fabric all over the world.

The Benefits of Corduroy

Corduroy is a very strong fabric that is usually quite thick yet easy to sew. It is a warm fabric and as a result it is one of the favourites of those favouring outdoor country living. Corduroy is available in a wide range of weights and colours and the density of the lines, or wales as they are known, gives scope for an extensive range of garments and new styles. Quite simply, the fabric makes for a good quality product and it is used by many familiar brands

Washing your New Corduroys for Men

Our corduroy trousers are a mixture of 100% cotton with natural stretch and 97% cotton and 3% elastane, depending on colour. We recommend 30 degree or cool wash, or hand wash is desired followed by a medium iron heat for your new cords. Do not tumble dry. Always take extra care to check the label on your clothes for origin and best washing instructions.

Reviews for your Corduroy Trousers

Here at WISC we love customer feedback so if you love your new mens corduroy trousers, or indeed any items of clothing you have purchased from us then please leave us a review.

Size and Sustainability

Here at WISC we take sustainability seriously. We use Natural fabrics and make most of our garments to order which avoids wastage and over stocking. We make garments that are classic designs that are built to last in England and pay our staff properly. One aspect that is crucial in this supply chain Is believe it or not size. We make by hand in traditional tailored sizes for both mens and ladies clothing. It means that we do not indulge in vanity sizing prevalent amongst high street stores. To avoid returns and all the transport and re- make issues that follow it is important that you order the correct size the first time you shop online with us. We strongly recommend that you use a pair of trousers you have that fit in order to determine your genuine size. Place the trousers on a flat surface and measure across the waist. If you double this measurement you will have your waist size. If you have doubts with any items click and view our size guide. Taking this action will help us in our drive to sustainability which benefits everyone. The range of sizes possible with our create your own system is many thousands. Thank you for your help.
