What are Chinos?

Chinos are trousers made traditionally from a 100% Cotton fabric with a steep twill construction. Sometimes the fabric is mercerised to create a sheen. More recently the fabric has a small addition of elastane in to help stretch and fit. They are incredibly versatile trousers, making them great for more casual office work or indeed for weekends or cooler holiday evenings for that dinner out. They match a variety of shirts and tops and are equally at home beneath a sweater or a blazer.

The Origins Of Chinos

The origins of Chinos date back to the 19th century in the Philippines where the ruling Spanish army wore trousers made from twill. The cloth was imported from China which at the time was referred to by the Spanish as Chino. Later Twill became the go to fabric for uniforms, and after world war two many returning soldiers wore them as casual clothing and this led to a growth in popularity particularly amongst ivy league campuses in the US.

What to Wear With Chinos for Men

Men’s Chinos are incredibly versatile trousers. Often worn for travelling and for weekends, they are smart enough not to look out of place in the office in today’s world especially when paired with a smart casual shirt such as our navy pinstripe oxford shirt. In summer and on holidays you will also see them beneath polo shirts and even t shirts. Our colour range is huge so there is a great opportunity to find your favourite. Washing your Stretch Chino Trousers

Our men’s stretch chino trousers are 97% cotton and 3% elastane which creates stretch for a superior fit. We recommend 30 degree or cool wash, or hand wash is desired followed by a medium iron heat. Do not tumble dry. Always check the label on your trousers for origin and best washing instructions and set your iron to the proper temperature.

Chino Size and Sustainability

Here at WISC we take sustainability seriously. We use Natural fabrics and made to order which avoid wastage and over stocking. We make garments that are classic designs that are built to last in England and pay our staff properly. One aspect that is crucial in this supply chain Is believe it or not size. We make by hand in traditional tailored sizes for both mens and womens clothing. It means that we do not indulge in vanity sizing prevalent amongst high street stores. To avoid returns and all the transport and re- make issues that follow it is important that you order the correct size the first time you shop online with us. We strongly recommend that you use a pair of trousers you have that fit in order to determine your genuine size. Place the trousers on a flat surface and measure across the waist. If you double this measurement you will have your waist size. Taking this action will help us in our drive to sustainability which benefits everyone. Would you class your chinos as slim fit chinos or stretch chino trousers?

Our chino fabric does have stretch in it so you could describe them as stretch chino trousers, but they are also available in a three leg widths including one that results in trousers that are slim fit chinos

Are your chino shorts tailored like your chino trousers?

Yes they are hand cut and made to order in the same fabric as our men’s trousers

Do you make your chinos in many colours?

There are ten colours available including navy beige and red. All are available in three leg widths including slim fit

Do you make all of your clothes in the UK?

Yes we hand cut and make to order for all our clothing range, including trench coats, men’s trousers and boxer shorts at our Suffolk factory where we have been making them for years

Do you just make clothing for men?

No we make both men’s and womens clothing

Would you consider your clothing range as fast fashion?

No we certainly would not. Our clothing range consists of classic designs that never go out of fashion and lasts. Fast fashion creates serious problems for the environment
