Mens Wedding Attire Hot Weather | Men Summer Wedding Outfits

Summer wedding attire

Our new blog explores men’s wedding attire for hot weather. We will discuss various options for you to consider along with some stylish options to elevate your outfit. As our clothing range is mostly mens we will concentrate here on mens outfits, but we do also make and sell a fantastic range of womens shirts and blouses ideal for a wedding, especially those in linen.

When choosing wedding attire, it is really important to do your initial reconnaissance and check if there is already a dress code in place. If so this will likely limit your options even if the weather is really hot. If the code is more relaxed, there are plenty of options on the table.

Know the formality of the wedding, check if there is a dress code

The first stage to choosing your outfit is to properly gauge the formality of the wedding you are attending. Is there already a clear dress code (likely to be on the invitation)? What is the groom and best man and ushers wearing? For example if they are in black tie then you can’t really turn up in shorts (even if they are tailored). Think about you and that wedding photo which includes all the guests in it. You don’t want to stand out like a sore thumb!

Let’s assume the dress code states smart casual and we know the groom is not wearing black tie. Already you have good options going forward.

The next thing to consider is what type of wedding are you attending? Is it a British summer time wedding? A Beach wedding? Or a wedding abroad somewhere hot? These different locations directly influence what you should wear.

Beach Weddings or Weddings abroad

If you are attending a beach wedding or a wedding abroad and the dress code is smart casual then you have plenty of options available at your disposal.

However before we get down to potential outfits, it is worth noting that as long as you go for well tailored clothing, you will always pass and look presentable. This will be true if you are wearing trousers or even shorts. Good tailoring is fundamental to all weddings.

Linen Shirts for a Beach Wedding

There is nothing better in hot weather than wearing a tailored linen shirt. Our men’s linen shirts are available in both white and blue which are two safe choices. We would avoid other colours like a pink or yellow shirt unless it is a part of the colour theme for the wedding.

Beach weddings are by nature a more relaxed occasion so you should be fine without a tie. That said you need to keep the outfit smart so to begin with we recommend only undoing the first button and making sure the cuffs are fastened. You can roll them up later into the day. While these are our suggestions and recommendations, it is courteous to double check with the bride and groom.

One of the nice features you will find with our linen collection is the contrasting fabrics inside the collar and cuffs along with the brown buttons. This helps to elevate both the shirt and outfit. Furthermore, our shirts are not just for a wedding day. They are so versatile you can wear them for every occasion from work to the weekend. Consider them an investment.

Cotton Shirts suitable for wedding attire

If you prefer cotton to linen shirts or just struggle to iron linen shirts, then we have a nice selection for you to choose from. We personally would consider going for our button down collar Oxford shirts as they are a good all rounder. Also the Oxford fabric is a good choice as it is basket weave which allows the air to easily flow through the fabric so you will stay nice and cool.

Chinos

If it is a beach wedding or somewhere hot we strongly suggest a cotton pair of chinos. Wearing a warm suit is a non-starter. Our chinos are actually 97% cotton with 3% elastane which makes them extra comfortable to wear during the day. Our men’s chinos are part of our create your own trousers online. The service offers an unparalleled selection of waist and inside leg measurements including three builds; slim, medium and classic leg. There are 200 unique combinations per colour.

Many men are currently choosing the slim leg option for their jeans and trousers. While this is the current fashion trend, it is worth noting that in really hot weather slim leg can be quite uncomfortable. We would suggest going for our medium tailored leg as a good compromise – still offering a nice shape without being too tight anywhere.

With regards to colour options consider a tan chino colour like stone or beige. Generally avoid dark colours like navy or black as they absorb the heat rather than reflect it. If you like bolder colours like red or yellow, we would definitely recommend politely asking the groom and bride to see if it is ok. Bold colours can detract from the wedding party and look out of place in the wedding photos. Remember it is their big day – not yours!

Chino Shorts for men

If it is a really hot day and the wedding party is casual then this is your chance to consider wearing shorts. We offer a fantastic selection of traditionally tailored shorts which is absolutely key if this is your final choice. You can’t wear cargo shorts or elasticised waist shorts. They have got to look sharp and clean. Our chino shorts include classic features like front slanted pockets and rear double welts with pocket flaps. Like the chinos, stick with a tan colour, or consider grey and light blue options.

Wedding Shoes

When it comes to footwear you can’t go wrong with a nice pair of brown brogues. If you want something a little more casual try some tan suede loafers. Even if it is a beach wedding, you cannot seriously be seen in flip flops or sandals.

British Summer Wedding

With a British Summer wedding tailored shorts are off. Unless it is unusually hot (which let’s face it is rare in the UK) a cotton poplin or Oxford shirt will suffice. Further you can usually get away with a tie for the ceremony before taking it off at the reception. With regards to trousers – stick with chinos unless there is a stricter dress code already in place.

If you need to add an extra layer of formality and don’t fancy wearing a jacket then consider a waistcoat. We have a nice selection of tweed waistcoats in three styles; notch collar, shawl collar and without a collar. We use a lightweight twill and herringbone tweed from Moon and Sons in Yorkshire.

Many people may be thinking at this stage that we have lost our mind. We are suggesting tweed on a hot summer's day. You need to remember a waistcoat is not like a full jacket. Further the tweed is only at the front; the inside and back is 100% viscose which is both lightweight and breathable. Last but not least the waistcoat doesn’t cover your arms. If you need that extra level of formality it really is a sound choice. It is also the perfect addition to your outfit if you are going to a vintage styled wedding.

The finishing touches for your wedding outfit for men

If you do go for a waistcoat then consider adding a printed handkerchief in the top pocket. It adds that extra bit of style to your outfit without going over the top.

Conclusion : Always check the dress code

We hope this blog will help steer you in finding the right wedding attire for hot weather. It does always come down to initially researching the dress code and what other guests plan to wear. Once you have a clear idea you then know how smart or casual you can afford to be. You can then use this blog to create a really stylish outfit that you can wear on a hot day without keeling over.
