Mens Blue Shirt

Our new blog is dedicated to luxury men’s shirts in the UK. Of all the blogs we write regularly, this is one of the most personal. Our clothing brand started over a decade ago from humble beginnings. Our founder Paul Brown, designed and made his first men’s collection in his parent’s garage. Fast forward today and we offer a first class men’s collection that now includes jackets and coats along with polo shirts and boxer shorts. We also retail ladies blouses and trench coats. Our collections are regularly sold to over 40 countries worldwide.

There are many characteristics that define luxury men’s shirts, especially those in the UK. These include:

Quality fabrics and materials

Hand Made in England: The best craftsmanship and tailoring

A modern design

First Class fit and sizing

We will break down each of these categories as well as giving our top five men’s luxury shirts and trousers to create the perfect British outfit.

Quality materials

When it comes to luxury shirts or clothing, an integral part is the materials used. We spare no expense when it comes to sourcing our shirting cloths along with interfacing and buttons. Small details like the brand of thread is also equally important as this improves the strength of the seams to ensure longevity of the shirt. A luxury shirt should be seen as an investment.

We currently buy our shirting fabrics from three European mills; Monti, Canclini and Soktas. All three mills use long staple US Pima or Egyptian cotton to weave their fabrics. This is the same cotton that is used to produce the finest bed linen. We offer four popular weaves in our current men’s shirt collection:

Oxford (basket weave) is used for over half of both our men’s and ladies shirt collection. The cloth has a wonderful weight and versatility to it. It is so easy to dress it up or down and we have created a number of different styles to take full advantage of this stunning cloth.

Poplin is another popular choice among our discerning customers. A finer shirting cloth is Oxford; it is reserved for many of our more formal shirts like our double cuff collection.

In addition to poplin and oxford we also offer twill and herringbone weaves. Both are used in our smarter shirts and provide an alternative to the usual oxford and poplin that make up 90% of a men’s shirt wardrobe.

Our shirting fabrics are available in a stunning selection of colours, stripes and checks to suit every occasion. With the best cloth, the next part to a luxury shirt is the choice of button. The buttons literally make or break a shirt or jacket so it is essential that the right ones are used. Again we refer to the experts in button making and use Maribert and Italy and Courtney and Co in Britain. With Courtney and Co we use their corozo buttons which not only look fantastic, but are also sustainable. Last but not least we follow traditional British tailoring methods and opt for a 100% cotton sewn in interfacing for the shirt collar and cuffs. This is a superior option to other brands that choose a fusible interfacing that glues to the outer fabric. The issue with such fusible interfacings is that they degrade over time and eventually come unstuck from the shirt cloth creating an awful bubbling effect.

In addition to 100% long staple cotton, we also offer a fine linen shirt collection in both ladies and men.

Hand made in England

When people search for luxury men’s shirts in the UK, you may be under the impression that all the shirts that feature in the search engine are UK made. Unfortunately this is often not the case. Many UK brands manufacture some if not all of their shirts abroad.

However we are different and are proud to manufacture all our shirts and clothing at our own Suffolk factory in England. There are a number of benefits to having your own UK manufacturing factory. The first being is complete control of the production process from start to finish. There is more than one way to make a shirt with a different number of production processes. Our process is longer and more in depth than others where many of the shirt seams are sewn twice and in some cases three times. This creates very strong seams that will never fail, even though the customer probably will never notice them. As Henry Ford once said “quality is doing it right when on one is looking”. In addition we only use small single needle stitches to make each shirt which are also cut by hand. This does create superior seams, especially the side seam which sets our shirts apart from other brands.

A modern design

A modern design refers to creating a stylish shirt that is both classic and timeless but also will stand out for the right reasons. This is by no means an easy feat and is currently the sole responsibility of our founder and head designer Paul Brown. Paul continues to adopt his popular signature style in both his men’s and ladies collections. This includes contrast fabric inside the collar and cuffs which is often printed cloth from either Canclini or Liberty London. You will also find contrasting buttons and buttonholes which ensure that the shirts are unique. You will not find the same shirt design with another brand. That said, the choice of the cloths and colour combinations ensure the shirts will always look stylish. They will never go out of fashion.

Fit and sizing

We offer our men’s shirts in sizes small up to XXX large. They have a split yoke at the back for greater comfort. We also have recently introduced a S/M option which has proven a hit. You will find our shirts a happy balance between a slim fit and classic fit. If you prefer a tighter or more generous cut we recommend going up or down a size accordingly.

Caring for your luxury shirts

We recommend a 30 degree wash, no tumble dry and iron on the inside of the cloth on medium heat. For best results hand straight from the washing machine. Always check the label on your clothing, not just for origin but also washing instructions.
