This new blog is dedicated to blouses for interviews. Interviews can be a stressful event so it pays at least to have put thought into and be comfortable in your outfit. Here at WISC we offer a fantastic selection of blouses and ladies' shirts to cater to all occasions, from business to casual wear.

When it comes to selecting a blouse for an interview, it is important to consider the following:

Type of interview

Colour

Fit & composition

Style

Materials & Finish

Type of interview

This is the most important question you need to answer, and it covers two areas; type of occupation and position.

The type of occupation will help determine the best type of blouse, but in some cases there may be a specific dress code. For example, you can’t go wrong with a ruffle shirt if it is a country role or equine-based position. We offer both ruffle front and ruffle neck blouses in navy, black, white, and burgundy. It is often safe to stick with the classic tailored ladies' white or black shirt if it is for a receptionist, estate agent, or PA position.

The position or level of the job you are interviewing for also plays an important role in what to wear. For example, if you are applying for a senior position in a company, then consider adding our pussy bow blouse to your interview clothes. The blouses worn by former prime minister Margaret Thatcher have become synonymous with high-powered women in business and politics. The blouse is the feminine alternative to a men’s traditional suit and tie, finding the perfect balance between masculine work wear and femininity.

What Colour to Wear?

Regarding an interview, we recommend sticking with classic blouse colours like white or light blue as these are easy to create an outfit from. Avoid bold and colourful blouses for an interview, like orange or yellow. These colours are much harder to create a formal outfit from.

Fit & composition

Fit is essential; one should never have a too-tight shirt. Better to choose a blouse that is a more generous cut than one that is too tight. Further, avoid polyester-based fabrics as these don’t allow the skin to breathe, making you clammy and uncomfortable. The last thing you need when preparing for the interview. Stick with 100% cotton.

Our ladies' blouses combine 100% cotton and 97% cotton with 3% elastane. Regarding overall comfort and fit, we cannot stress the benefit of the 97% cotton and 3% elastane fabrics. These stretch in just the right places leading to a better all-round fit. We offer this great cloth in white, light blue and black.

You will also find two types of weaves in our blouse collection; poplin and Oxford.

Poplin is a popular choice for formal business attire as it is a fine yarn tighter than Oxford. You will find all our black blouses using this cloth.

Our white and light blue shirts use the Oxford weave, also known as a basket weave. This luxurious weave has a great weight and drape, making it suitable for formal and casual occasions.

Regarding blouse style, we offer many options. You can’t go wrong with our plain white or black ladies' shirt for those seeking a classic tailored blouse. The blouse is finished with a classic collar, split yoke, and single-button cuff. This classic shirt will become your wardrobe staple and can be dressed up or down for any occasion.

As previously mentioned, if you are going for a country or equine role, then consider our ruffle blouses or our pussy bow blouse for senior positions.

We also offer elegant tulip collar blouses that are stylish but understated.

Materials & Finish

You can always spot a quality blouse from a mile away. If you want to look for the part for your interview, consider investing in a quality blouse. All our blouses are hand cut and made to order at our Suffolk factory in England. We use traditional British tailoring techniques and single-needle stitching throughout to ensure a first-class finish. We don’t use any over-locking on our shirts; you will find that many of the seams are sewn multiple times to ensure they will never fail.

No expense is spared in materials, with our shirting fabrics coming from Europe’s finest shirting mills. We use the best threads, buttons, and interfacing to ensure that every aspect of our blouses looks fabulous.

If in doubt, go with classic ladies' plain white tailored shirt

If you have got this far and are still uncertain which blouse is best for your interview, wear our classic ladies' white tailored shirt. It looks fantastic, is easy to style, and won’t disappoint you.

Caring for your blouse

We recommend a 30-degree wash. Iron on the inside of the cloth on medium heat. Do not tumble dry; hang straight from the washing machine for best results.

Sizing

Our ladies' blouses are fitted and finished with two darts in the back for a nice shape around the waist. In the case of our blouses with bow at the neck, all three use a cloth with 3% elastane. This helps the blouse stretch in just the right places and makes the blouses very conformable to wear during the day. If you prefer a more relaxed fit, we recommend going up one size. We offer our blouses from size six up to 20.

What should I wear with my blouse to complete my Interview Outfit?

We recommend a tailored suit with trousers or a skirt with your tops to play it safe for an interview outfit. Better to always be overdressed rather than underdressed. Consider a smart pair of dark or black jeans if the position is less formal. We recommend our flagship ladies' double-breasted trench coats if you need a nice coat. These trench coats are stylish and practical, made with a water-repellent cotton twill cloth.

Conclusion

Hopefully, our blog has given good advice to help you choose the right blouse for your next job interview. Recapping, always choose 100% cotton or cotton with elastane. Avoid polyester fabrics; always wear the lady's tailored white shirt if unsure. It will never let you down.

Last but not least, remember our blouses are more than just interviews for business attire. They are incredibly versatile and look great with your favourite pair of blue jeans.

Price and Value

Our classic garments are always made in the UK from fine fabrics and are built to love and to last. They do not go out of shape or come apart after several washes so you can wear them again and again. Contrast this to much cheaper high street versions that end up stuck in your wardrobe after being worn just once, never to see the light of day as they were ill fitting or didn't survive the laundry. You pay a price up front but value is only apparent with the passage of time. The adage of ‘don't buy cheap, buy smart ‘fits here and you will do your bit for the environment as well.

Sustainability and Size

I cannot leave this blog without mentioning sustainability. It means many different things to many different people. It is well known that the fast fashion industry does enormous harm to the environment, particularly oil based fabrics and single use garments. You should consider this fact every time you shop for clothing. Here at WISC we make classic garments that are built to last from natural fabrics to help minimise our impact. They are designed to be worn again and again without losing their shape or appearance. Multiple use also means that they become value for money. We also make most of our products to order so that unwanted stock is never a feature. Size is also a factor in sustainability. If clothes fit well they will be used a lot and the issue of returns for ill fitting garments becomes redundant. We stress this on our site and in addition to an extensive detailed size guide, we offer a special ‘design your own trouser’ section for this very reason. If you generally purchase off the peg chinos for example and try to make them fit, why not visit our website with your measurements and we will make you a pair. Going forward we continue to look at ways of improving our sustainability credentials further. You should also always consider recycling or donating any clothes you really don't want or need.

We Make a Wide range of Clothes, not just Blouses

Here at WISC we make a selection of products for both men and women including trench coats and shirts. All are made from the best material and manufactured to the same exacting standards. Our collections are on sale to view and buy online so why not pop onto our site and put something in your basket. You will be supporting British manufacture and of course they make great gifts too
