Smart casual trousers mens uk

Our new blog focuses on smart casual trousers for men. We currently offer three trouser cloths in our collection of smart casual trousers mens uk; moleskin, corduroy and classic twill used for our chinos collection.

For trousers to be smart casual you need to consider the following:

Quality of materials

Design and manufacturing

Colour and material

Fit

Rest of outfit

We will explore all five of these areas below to help you make an informed decision.

Quality materials: Cotton and Cotton plus Elastane for Fit

If you want a pair of smart casual trousers, where we emphasise the word “smart” then the quality of the cloth and other materials is really important.

We source our fabrics from Yorkshire mill Brisbane Moss. Our moleskin trousers are 100% cotton with natural stretch, while our corduroy and twill are 97% cotton with 3% elastane. We cannot emphasise enough how the natural stretch or 3% elastane improves the daily wear ability of our trousers. They stretch in just the right places and make our trousers exceptionally comfortable to wear.

Further there is no drawback in the quality of the fabrics which are just as luxurious as any 100% cotton alternative.

The quality of materials does not stop at the cloth. We also give special attention to the buttons, zip and interior pocket lining. In each case we spare no expense in using the very best including real buffalo horn buttons and the finest shirting fabrics for the interior pockets.

Design process and manufacturing

For trousers to be smart casual it is important they include key tailoring features:

Front slanted pockets

Rear double welt pockets with button fastened pocket flap

Front fly with zip

Belt loops

Of the four above, the last three have particular relevance when considering a pair of smart casual trousers.

The first is the belt loops which is an alternative to side adjusters. Side adjusters should be reserved for only formal attire and not smart casual. Secondly the front fly should be zip and not buttoned. Buttoned is generally reserved for more casual trousers and jeans.

Thirdly is the rear double welt pocket with pocket flap. The pocket flap certainly fits the smart casual bill perfectly and is less formal than just a double or single welt rear pocket. However the pocket flap is more than just a design feature. It also has an important role in maintaining the integrity of the rear pockets and stops them from sagging. The pocket flap should always be fastened during the washing and hanging of your trousers. On occasions you can always tuck the pocket flap into the pocket lining for events should you want to create a more formal finish to your trousers.

All our trousers are hand cut and made to order at our factory Suffolk, England. Our experienced tailors and seamstresses combine traditional British tailoring with a mixture of old and modern machinery to create the very best trousers money can buy. Our production process includes a number of extra steps with many seams being sewn up to three times to ensure they will never fail.

Colour & cloth for your smart casual trousers

It is really important to never underestimate the importance of colour choices when selecting a pair of smart casual trousers for men. Darker shades like black and brown naturally instil an extra level of formality to the outfit. Lighter shades like beige and stone are more casual and can be worn for a much wider range of occasions.

The cloth is also an important consideration. Our twill cloth for our chinos is perfect for both smart and formal occasions while the moleskin is more casual in nature. The corduroy sits somewhere between the two.

Fit

When buying new trousers, jeans or chinos the most important aspect for most men will be the fit which can often prove difficult. We are all different shapes and sizes and yet the selection available today is often restricted to a limited number of waist and inside leg options.

Sharing men’s frustrations we decided to launch create your own chinos back in 2018 and today offer the same first class service for our corduroy and moleskin trousers and jeans. This online service is as close to made to measure and offers over 200 unique combinations per colour.

Simply follow four steps to find the perfect fitting trousers today.

Step 1: Select your trouser colour

The first stage is selecting colour. In the case of our chinos you can choose from 11 different colours including classic French Navy to tan colour trousers like beige or stone. We have a similar selection of colours to choose from for our corduroy trousers and five traditional colours for our moleskin trousers.

Step 2: Measure Your Waist. This is vital for fit

This is without doubt the most important part of the four step process and we strongly recommend that you measure your own waist or a pair of trousers that you already own.

Do not assume the size label in your current trousers is accurate as many brands are actively involved in vanity sizing where the size label is smaller than the actual waist size.

Our waist sizes range from 28” up to 46” and include a number of hard to find odd sizes like 33” and 35”.

Step 2: Select inside leg for your trousers.

Like the waist measurements, we offer inside leg lengths from 28” up to 36”.

Step 3: Leg build

The final step to creating your new trousers is selecting the build. We have three options; slim leg, medium leg and classic leg.

For those who want a close fit then slim is the obvious choice. Classic is the most relaxed fit with more room for your calves. The medium leg is the perfect balance between the two and remains our most popular cut.

Rest of outfit: Bringing your smart casual outfit all together

When you are looking to buy smart casual trousers it is important to consider the rest of the outfit. Smart casual in this day and age is a very broad term and includes office and business attire. We have put together some men’s outfits below that include our shirts, polos and men’s jackets to create a range of smart casual outfits that will cover this broad definition.

Navy chinos remains a men’s wardrobe staple and is the backbone of modern men’s style. We have chosen a French navy which is far better than other shades which are either too light, dull or dark that they could pass for a faded black. Don’t make this mistake and always select the French navy. We have paired our navy chinos with our pink Oxford shirt for a smart and stylish outfit.

Our mens pink Oxford shirt includes many of our famous signature styling such as contrasting buttons and buttonholes along with Liberty prints inside the collar and cuffs.

Outfit 3: Corduroy trousers with khaki field jacket

The khaki field jacket is a 100% cotton twill cloth with a water repellent finish making the jacket both stylish and practical. Like our trousers the field jacket uses the same real buffalo horn buttons and a warm corduroy lining for the interior collar and cuffs.

Conclusion

If you are seeking men’s smart casual trousers then look no further. We offer a fantastic selection of colour and cloth options along with a level of customisation like no other. Elevate your smart casual wardrobe with not just our trousers, but our tailored shirts and stylish coats.

Price and Value

Our classic garments are always made in the UK from fine fabrics and are built to love and to last. They do not go out of shape or come apart after several washes so you can wear them again and again. Contrast this to much cheaper high street versions that end up stuck in your wardrobe after being worn just once, never to see the light of day as they were ill fitting or didn't survive the laundry. You pay a price up front but value is only apparent with the passage of time. The adage of ‘don't buy cheap, buy smart ‘fits here, and our garments offer better value all things considered.

As well as this you will be doing your bit for the environment as well.

Sustainability and Size

I cannot leave this blog without mentioning sustainability. It means many different things to many different people. It is well known that the fast fashion industry does enormous harm to the environment, particularly oil based fabrics and single use garments. You should consider this fact every time you shop for clothing. Here at WISC we make classic garments that are built to last from natural fabrics to help minimise our impact. They are designed to be worn again and again without losing their shape or appearance. Multiple use also means that they become value for money. We also make most of our products to order so that unwanted stock is never a feature. Size is also a factor in sustainability. If clothes fit well they will be used a lot and the issue of returns for ill fitting garments becomes redundant. We stress this on our site and in addition to an extensive detailed size guide, we offer a special ‘design your own trouser’ section for this very reason. If you generally purchase off the peg chinos for example and try to make them fit, why not visit our website with your measurements and we will make you a pair. Going forward we continue to look at ways of improving our sustainability credentials further. You should also always consider recycling or donating any clothes you really don't want or need.

We Make a Wide range of Smart and Casual Clothes
