New Double Cuff Shirts by Paul Brown

Our New Double Cuff Shirt Collection

Double Cuff

We are proud to announce the release of our new formal dress shirts with notched double cuffs and removable collar stays. Like all our British made clothing we have spared no expense on this new collection where we offer our customers only the finest shirting fabrics and materials to deliver a new formal dress shirt collection that is equal to any shirts you will find on Savile Row or Jermyn street.

What is the difference between single and double cuff?

Our new formal shirt collection is the first time we have offered double or French Cuffs in a collection. Double cuffs are cuffs that are folded over and worn with cuff links as opposed to the rest of our British made luxury shirts where the cuffs are fastened by a single button. Double cuffs are more complex in design and offer an extra level of formality.

Can you wear cufflinks with any shirt?

In order to wear cuff links you need two buttons holes on each side of the cuff. You will find some shirts with single cuffs that have both a button and two buttonholes that give the wearer the option of fastening normally or wearing cuff links. However the biggest drawback of this design is that the button can get in the way of the cuff links and you can see both at the same time which looks messy.

Our thoughts are that if you intend to wear cuff links then select a shirt that is designed only to be worn with cuff links like our new double cuff shirts

Luxury Shirts

As Bruce Boyer (previous editor of Town & Country) once quoted “luxury is understanding quality and having the time to enjoy it”. We fully agree which is why we selected only the finest materials to make every shirt with first class British tailoring coupled with an excellent fit and a modern design

A modern designed collection with Notched Double Cuffs

We have decided to go with notched double cuffs which allow a small part of the inside fabric to be recognised as shown in the white shirt below: white formal double cuff shirt with contrast

Five piece collar with removable collar stays

Our formal double cuff shirt collars are constructed from five separate pieces of fabric and interfacing along with removable collar stays to ensure the collar maintains excellent rigidity when worn with a tie. Further we offer a sufficient gap for both a half and full Windsor knot.

Luxury Materials

What you don’t see can be equally important to what you do see. In order to ensure longevity wash after wash we use only Coats and Gutermann thread as they are both recognised as the world leaders in industrial sewing threads. We use a sewn in interfacing from DHJ rather than the cheaper fusible options found on lower priced shirts which will deteriorate over time as the glue comes unstuck from the fabric. Our buttons are sourced from Italian button maker Maribert.

Double Cuff Collection Made in England

Like all our British made clothing our shirts are hand cut and handmade in England at our Suffolk Factory. Our experienced British tailors and seamstresses have a genuine passion for making luxury UK made shirts and trousers and take real pride in their work. We guarantee you will be pleased with your purchase and join the many great customers that continue to buy from us since we launched our first men’s shirt collection back in 2010.

Fit | The perfect balance between slim and a classic cut

We have been a British Shirt Maker for over a decade and all our British shirts online use the same tried and tested block which has been adapted over the years to ensure a fit that works for most British men.

We strongly believe a shirt should fit but not be so tight (like many slim fit shirts currently on the market) such that you can’t actually move easily in it. It is a fine balance but our shirts achieve this middle ground between slim and classic cuts so they are neither really loose or very tight. A good luxury shirt you should be able to feel the quality cloth touching your skin.

How do you wear a double cuff?

A double cuff requires cuff links and it is important to choose the right cuff links that complements the shirt cloth and colour. If you are wearing a classic plain white or blue shirt then you have more options in terms of design and colour of cuff links. However with the wide blue stripe shirt below we recommend a plain simple cuff link so it doesn’t clash with the stripes.

Remember that cuff links should always complement your shirt and outfit but not stand out and detract from it.

Styling our luxury formal shirts

Double cuff or French Cuff long sleeve shirts are often worn with a tie as part of a suit. However our British shirts with contrast fabric inside the collar stand allows the shirt to look equally great without a tie and the top button undone. For example the blue double cuff shirt below includes a pinstripe inside the collar:

Our long sleeve double cuff shirts also look great with a pair of our trousers available in traditional twill, moleskin and corduroy. It is important to choose the right colour combination – especially if you are planning to also wear with a tie

Plain White or Blue Double Cuff

Plain white and blue shirts remain the most versatile shirts and go well with every colour options. We personally like to combine it with darker suits or trousers along with a bold tie.

Striped Double Cuff

If the shirt fabric is a pinstripe then you can get away with a bold tie and a wide range of suits including pinstripes. However if the fabric is a wide stripe as shown below we strongly recommend plain ties and suits otherwise the whole outfit can clash

Choosing the right cuff links

There are a wide variety of different cuff links available with some examples shown in photo below:

Examples of different types of cuff links to be worn with double cuffs

We prefer the silk knot or a simple whale back cuff link

Selecting the right Shoes

Whether you wear your double cuff with a tie or with the neck open it is essential to wear the right shoes. We recommend a pair of brogues or Oxford shoes – especially if the shirt is worn with a tie and suit.

If you are planning on wearing them with chinos or cords then a pair of loafers would work well. We prefer brown, navy or black shoes

A price that offers excellent value for money

The price of our new double cuff collection offers excellent value for money. When you combine the fine fabrics, and materials coupled with a refined fit and years of British shirt making expertise the result is a very competitive price for a luxury hand cut and made British shirt.

Caring for your double cuff shirt

We recommend a 30 degree wash and iron the inside of the shirts on a medium heat. Do not tumble dry and ensure the collar stays are removed from the collar before washing. For best results immediately hang shirt after washing.

Other Shirts

In addition to our new capsule double cuff collection we also offer a range of casual shirt including denim, corduroy, oxford button downs as well as shirts with Liberty London Tana Lawn inside the collar and cuffs.
