Country Trousers for Men

The countryside is defined as a rural area away from towns or built up areas. However, many town dwellers now own a second home or visit the countryside regularly. To seemingly fit in with local people they often wear what they consider to be country attire and it is often sold outside of rural areas. Genuine country trousers are warmer, more resistant to tears and rips and are often specifically designed for a country field sport such as horse riding or shooting. Whilst waterproof fabrics are ideal for certain pursuits exposed to inclement outdoor weather, tweed, moleskin and corduroy are very common. Whether just out walking with a dog or for a trip to the local pub trousers from these fabrics abound in the countryside and within farming communities.

Despite its name Moleskin fabric obviously does not of course come from moles. It is a durable heavy cotton fabric, woven and then sheared to create a short, soft pile on one side. The feel and appearance of its nap is close to suede and has been said to feel like the fur on a mole.
The origins of moleskin cloth are a little hazy but its use can be traced back to mediaeval Europe where the fabric was first made to be used by farmers and hunters who needed clothing that was comfortable, warm, durable, and wind resistant. Whilst the fabric is still popular in country pursuits, moleskin trousers are now a common sight in towns and cities, especially at weekends.
Here at WISC our Moleskin Trousers for men, or moleskin pants as they are known in the US, are made from the finest Moleskin fabric. The option to input your own measurements whilst ordering online means that fit will always be perfect. Corduroy is a very strong fabric that is usually quite thick yet easy to sew. It is a warm fabric and as a result it is one of the favourites of those favouring outdoor country living. Strong and hard wearing, they resist the rigours of country pursuits. Corduroy is available in a wide range of weights and colours and the density of the lines, or wales as they are known, gives scope for an extensive range of garments and new styles. Quite simply, the fabric makes for a good quality product and it is used by many familiar brands.
It is believed that corduroy fabric originated in Fustat, now part of Cairo, and was brought to Europe in mediaeval times. At this point it did not have the ridges that we would now accept as a definitive corduroy characteristic. The ridges, or wales as they are properly known came later and are measured in ridges per inch with pincord the finest and elephant cord the thickest. There is still dispute over where the name Corduroy came from, some saying it is a derivation of the words ‘ the cloth of kings’, and others from a combination of cord and duroy, a coarse woollen cloth by those attempting to give it a French sounding name. Whatever the truth, or whatever story you accept, corduroy is a very recognizable fabric all over the world.
At WISC our corduroy trousers for men are made from the finest corduroy fabric. The option to input your own measurements whilst ordering online means that fit will always be perfect. Each pair of corduroys is made to order in our own Suffolk factory and they are finished with a durable metal YKK zip. Chinos are trousers made traditionally from a 100% Cotton fabric with a steep twill construction. Sometimes the fabric is mercerised to create a sheen. More recently the fabric has a small addition of elastane in to help stretch and fit. They are incredibly versatile trousers, making them great for country weekends, more casual office work or indeed holiday evenings for that dinner out. They match a variety of shirts and tops and are equally at home beneath a sweater or a country check check shirt
The origins of Chinos date back to the 19th century in the Philippines where the ruling Spanish army wore trousers made from twill. The cloth was imported from China which at the time was referred to by the Spanish as Chino. Later Twill became the go to fabric for uniforms, and after world war two many returning soldiers wore them as casual clothing and this led to a growth in popularity particularly amongst ivy league campuses in the US.
At WISC our Chinos are made from the finest cotton twill fabric with a hint of elastane for comfort and the perfect fit. Our option to input your own measurements whilst ordering online means that fit will always be perfect. Each pair is cut and made to order in our own Suffolk factory and finished with a durable metal YKK zip. We believe that this attention to detail and tailoring makes our chinos the best, and quality is assured. There are ten amazing colours available including black, navy, beige, brown and white, there is something for everyone. No doubt chinos are the most versatile of all trousers and are often weekend wear of choice in the city, not just the countryside.

Breeches

The equestrian scene is very big in the country. Riding breeches are specially designed and shaped trousers for horse riding. Finished off with boots they are an essential part of equestrian clothing. They fit snugly throughout the seat thighs and legs, usually due to the presence of spandex. There are several different types of breeches, according to use. Jockeys use lightweight fabric for their breeches akin to silk and typically have elasticised lower legs. Show jumpers, hunters and eventers use knee patch breeches, as do some pleasure riders. Dressage riders, both men and women, tend to wear full seat breeches to help them stay deep in the saddle during competition.

Jodhpurs

Jodhpurs are a type of riding trousers that extend to the ankles and end in a small turn up that fits over the top of low riding boots.

Breeks

Breeks are country trousers deliberately cut to finish below the knee and usually have an adjustable buckle at the mem to allow for a tailored fit. They are usually worn with long shooting socks that come over the hem of the Breeks. A common sight in shoots, they are a close fit but can be made wider in plus twos that have an extra two inches of material to fold over the knee and plus fours which are wider still. Outside of Scotland they are often referred to as breeches.

Country Shooting Trousers

As well as Breeks, shooting trousers that are waterproof and have numerous pockets are a common sight in the countryside. Thick tough fabric helps protect the wearer from hostile environments, and they need to be well made to take the rigours of shooting and hunting. Warm and resistant to tearing they are full length trousers traditionally on sale in green and brown colours.

Tweed Trousers

Tweed trousers constructed from genuine tweed fabric are considered a smart option for a country gentleman, a product of quality. Regarded as a smarter option, they are mainly in green brown and beige colours and many of the fabrics have a distinct check.
