The Paradise Island Blue Linen Shirt

Our new blog will outline why our men's linen shirt collection is the best in the UK. Each shirt is hand cut and made to order at our Suffolk factory in England.

There are four key things to consider when buying the best men’s linen shirts. This includes:

Fabric and materials

Manufacturing and finish

Design

Fit

Fabric and materials

Linen fabric

Linen is a strong, absorbent cloth that dries quicker than cotton. As a result, a linen shirt is often a better choice than cotton for warmer weather and hot climates.

Linen comes from the flax plant and is one of the oldest textiles in the world, going back thousands of years. Some linen fabrics have been discovered that date back 30,000 years.

While many mills today weave linen, only a handful, mostly in Europe, are recognized for making exceptional linen shirting cloths. For our men’s and ladies' linen shirts, we use famous shirting mills, Soktas. Soktas was founded in 1971 and today is the supplier of shirting fabrics to many of the world’s leading luxury brands. The quality and finish of their fabrics are second to none.

Buttons

Buttons make or break a shirt. As our company strives to make the best linen shirts possible, we knew that no expense could be spared in sourcing buttons. Therefore we contacted famous British button maker Courtney and Co and selected their Tewkesbury button in our unique shade of brown for exclusivity. These stunning buttons are made from corozo derived from the nuts of the Tagua palms located in the rainforests of Central America. As these buttons are made from natural vegetable ivory, each has a unique pattern. No one button is the same.

Quality threads and interfacing

Sometimes, the features you can't see make the biggest difference. This is true for our linen shirts, which use the finest Gutermann threads and 100% cotton interfacing to support the collar and cuffs.

Proudly made in England

We are one of the last British shirt makers in the UK and have benefited from over a decade of shirt-making since the launch of our first capsule collection in 2010. Our production combines traditional tailoring techniques with old and modern machinery to create truly stunning shirts. Important features include single needle stitching throughout with many seams double or even tripled stitched to ensure they will never fail. Each shirt is often hand cut and made to order as we carry very low stock as part of our sustainable fashion policy.

Design

If you will spend money and buy the best linen shirt, then every base should be covered. This includes the design and styling. We don’t make ordinary shirts. We make special shirts that offer men true style and will add something to their outfits and current wardrobe.

Key design features include a split yoke around the shoulders for more comfort and folded fronts for a cleaner finish. As previously mentioned, we use contrasting brown corozo buttons made in the UK. Other signature styling includes contrasting fabric and buttonholes inside the collar and cuffs. The two most popular men’s linen shirts we sell are our navy nautical and light blue linen shirts. Both benefit from this styling. We have a contrast stripe and light blue buttonhole for the navy linen shirt, giving the shirt a nautical twist. The navy linen shirt is the perfect smart casual holiday shirt to wear to your favourite restaurant. We think you will agree it is one of the best linen shirts for men money can buy.

The light blue linen shirt is finished with one of our all-time favourite Liberty London printed fabrics; “Queue at the zoo.” This bold colour print of animals is amazing and elevates the shirt to a new level.

Fit

Last but not least, we have fit, which is always important. We don’t do slim fit or classic cut, but instead, a block that is a happy balance between the two. A nice shape without being too restrictive. We recommend going up or down a size accordingly if you prefer a closer cut or a more generous fit.

Colour

We offer blue, pink white and striped colour versions of our mens linen shirts, all available online

Navy Chinos (Medium Leg)

The ultimate smart casual outfit. The French navy chinos are always our recommended shade as it is bold and lifts any outfit. We always suggest you avoid darker shades as the blue gets lost. Pair with cream trainers or a pair of brogues. This is a top outfit that is very versatile.

Caring for your linen shirt

We recommend a 30-degree wash and iron on the inside of the linen on medium heat. Do not tumble dry; hang straight from your washing machine for best results.

Conclusion

We genuinely believe our men’s linen shirts are the best value for money. Not only are the linen shirts hand cut and made in England, but no expense is spared in materials and timeless designs, so they will always look good on and in your wardrobe. All our clothing is a long-term investment.

Price and Value

Our classic garments are always made in the UK from fine fabrics and are built to love and to last. They do not go out of shape or come apart after several washes so you can wear them again and again. Contrast this to much cheaper high street versions that end up stuck in your wardrobe after being worn just once, never to see the light of day as they were ill fitting or didn't survive the laundry. You pay a price up front but value is only apparent with the passage of time. The adage of ‘don't buy cheap, buy smart ‘fits here and you will do your bit for the environment as well.

Sustainability and Size

I cannot leave this blog without mentioning sustainability. It means many different things to many different people. It is well known that the fast fashion industry does enormous harm to the environment, particularly oil based fabrics and single use garments. You should consider this fact every time you shop for clothing. Here at WISC we make classic garments that are built to last from natural fabrics to help minimise our impact. They are designed to be worn again and again without losing their shape or appearance. Multiple use also means that they become value for money. We also make most of our products to order so that unwanted stock is never a feature. Size is also a factor in sustainability. If clothes fit well they will be used a lot and the issue of returns for ill fitting garments becomes redundant. We stress this on our site and in addition to an extensive detailed size guide, we offer a special ‘design your own trouser’ section for this very reason. If you generally purchase off the peg chinos for example and try to make them fit, why not visit our website with your measurements and we will make you a pair. Going forward we continue to look at ways of improving our sustainability credentials further. You should also always consider recycling or donating any clothes you really don't want or need.

We Make a Wide range of Clothes

Here at WISC have been making a selection of products for both men and women including shirts, trousers and boxer shorts for years. All are made from the best material and manufactured to the same exacting standards. Our collections are on sale to view and buy online so why not pop onto our site and put something in your basket. You will be supporting British manufacture when you shop with us and of course they make great gifts too
